Last Light Over Galveston by Jennifer L. Wright

Kroosreadsandreviews: This story was deep and moving.   The weaving of the story between the time in New York and the time in Galveston was interesting and unique.  When all of the stories came together, it left me in awe.   My initial thoughts were:  I loved that one part was set in an orphanage; the relationship between Annie and Maggie was so special; I was looking forward to the mystery in the story. My initial thoughts continued to keep me engaged in the story.   You will enjoy this story if you enjoy historical fiction, mystery and the juxtaposition between the rich and the poor. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own. What's it about: Galveston, Texas. September 1900.  Only months ago, Kathleen McDaniel returned from finishing school in Switzerland to her family home in New York’s Hudson Valley with a future of promise and privilege set before her. But one horrific event shattered her pictures...

To Light the Way Forward by Nancy Naigle

Kroosreadsandreviews: Such a lovely story!  Whelk's Island sounds like the perfect place to visit time and again.   You have the beauty of the ocean and the love and friendship from so many in the community.    I didn't read the first book in the series, but was easily acquainted with the characters.  Each character in the story was so wonderful and left an impact on me.  My particular favorites were Tug and Rosemary.  They seem like the perfect grandparents to have.    I loved the messages that were used in the shells and how they touched each person when they needed it most.   Thanks to netgalley and WaterBrook Publisher for the arc.  The opinions are my own. What's it about: Feeling adrift after the loss of her husband, Rosemary sets out to visit an old friend on Whelk’s Island, undeterred by the threat of a hurricane. Before the storm hits, she finds herself at Tug’s Diner where she quickly connects with the owner, Tug...

Smoky Mountain Escape by Rhonda Starnes

Kroosreadsandreviews: Heath is such a great sheriff and brother.  I loved how throughout the story he had such a sense of duty to those around him.   Kayla's story broke my heart and made me angry that she was part of this debacle in the woods.  Her strength and determination amidst the struggle in the mountains was remarkable.   Kayla's big brother, Sawyer, was a force to be reckoned with.   His wife, Brenda, knew how to maintain his sanity and be there for Kayla.    There was just the right amount of suspense in the story! Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.  The opinions are my own. What's it about: Two killers on the loose and threats around every corner… Sheriff Heath Dalton accidentally stumbles upon two gunmen trying to hide a body in the Smoky Mountains and barely escapes with his life. And when traveling nurse Kayla Eldridge finds herself stranded in the stormy wilderness with Heath, she now has a targ...

Love and Order by Jennifer Uhlarik

Kroosreadsandreviews: This was such a unique way to tell the story!   The book was split up into three parts with each part being told from the point of view of a different character.   I loved how Callie tried to stay impartial throughout the case and do her job well.    Orion was such a mystery and left the reader guessing as to who he was and how he was involved.   It's hard to say too much with these books without giving spoilers, but this was a great story that takes the reader on a great adventure! Thanks to netgalley and Barbour Publisher for the arc.  The opinions are my own. What's it about:   Separated as children when they were adopted out to different families from an orphan train, the Braddock siblings have each grown up and taken on various jobs within law enforcement and criminal justice. Pinkertons Callie Wilson and Joe Trenamen come to Cambria Springs to stop a killer. But when evidence points to a ghost from...

The Unbreakable Boy By Soctt Lerette

I saw a preview for this movie in the theater and it brought me to tears!  When I saw the book was available, I couldn't wait to read it. The story mainly centers around the father and son and their relationship.  The love that the dad has for his family, though contains many failures, is so strong.  I love how he tries to see the positive in Austin even though it can be challenging.   It meant so much when God came into the dad's life and was able to change him.  I enjoyed watching his relationship with God change throughout the story. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
