Unknown Threat by Lynn H. Blackburn

5 stars!  Available for purchase now! Another new author for me!  This book had me anxiously turning the pages to find out who the murderer was! The story is set in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Luke is a secret service agent that is being targeted and his coworkers/friends are being murdered.  Faith is an FBI agent who has been assigned the case.  There are so many different puzzle pieces to this suspense and I was surprised at the ending.  I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I particularly enjoyed the character of Luke.  He really cared about the people that were around him.  Faith was a go getter and was a little afraid to get close to people but cared deeply about those that she loved. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.  The opinions are my own!

A Distant Shore by Karen Kingsbury

This book is being published by Atria Books and will be published on April 27, 2021 5 Stars The topic of human trafficking is an extremely difficult topic to read about.  The author does a fantastic job of not going in to gruesome details about the horror of this practice but weaves grace in to the story. Eliza was raised as a Mennonite in Belize but then her father went away when she was around the age of 8.  He requested for her and her mother and brother, Daniel to come to him.  Later, Eliza is told that her mother and brother drowned in the ocean.  At the age of 10, she is swimming in the ocean and is so despondent by the life at the Palace that her father has created, that she gives up when the riptide pulls her down. Jack is a teenager when he is on vacation with his family in Belize.  He and his brother, Shane, are playing football and having a great time when they hear screams from the ocean.  Jack and Shane run to investigate.  This is the pivotal moment in the story as Jack

Meeting T.I. Lowe

Image
I read A LOT of books but I absolutely adore anything written by T.I. Lowe.  I began my reading journey with T.I. Lowe in June of 2020 when I read Driftwood Dreams .  From there I sought to read everything I could by her.  Her books have such an endearing quality as she clothes the character with a story that may be difficult to read about, but makes the reader engage with the character and learn more about a particular issue. As I continue to gush about the AMAZING-NESS of these books, you can only imagine my excitement as I had a chance to meet with T.I. Lowe recently while on vacation in South Carolina. No doubt she is an amazing author, but what was even more impressive was her faith and her love for her family and friends!! I did not realize that T.I. has only been writing books for the last 7 years.  She began writing at a time that was very difficult for her and her family.  It was during this time that she wrote Lulu's Cafe   and later independently published the book.  The

The Librarian of Saint-Malo by Mario Escobar

4 stars Jocelyn is a young lady living in the coastal town of Saint-Malo France.  She is the local librarian and is about to marry her love, Antoine.   Everything changes rapidly on their honeymoon to Paris.  Jocelyn is plagued with illness and not long after their return, Antoine is called up to fight. Jocelyn does everything in her power to save the books in her library.  She resists the occupation by hiding her books and trying to save the people of Saint-Malo. This was a compelling story told of World War II in a unique way.  Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.  The opinions are my own.

The Forest of Vanishing Stars by Kristin Harmel

5 Stars 100th REVIEW ON NETGALLEY!! Jerusza is an elderly woman who lived in the woods. She kidnaps 2 year old Inge, from Berlin. and trains her on how to survive in the woods over the next 20 years. She teaches Inge, who she calls Yona to keep herself separated from people. This is where the story becomes fascinating for me. The Jews begin to enter the woods evading from the Germans. Of course, they do not know how to survive in the woods. Will Yona disobey Jeruszas orders to keep separate from people? The characters of Yona and Zus were particularly endearing to me. This is another aspect of World War II that I never knew. The strength of the Jews to escape from the Germans and not only survive but thrive in the woods is a lesson for all of us today. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own. The book will be released on July 6, 2021 by Gallery Books and can be found here on Amazon  Amazon.com: The Forest of Vanishing Stars: A Novel (9781982158934):

No Journey Too Far by Carrie Turansky

4 stars This is the 2nd in the McAlister series.  I did not read the first one but did enjoy this one so much. The British Home Child was fascinating to read about as well.   Garth is home from the war and is still searching for his sister Grace.  It has been 10 years since he saw his sister.  At 7, Grace was adopted by a wealthy couple.  Her adoptive family wants her to marry without sharing the knowledge of being a British Home Child. The book is definitely an exciting journey.  I particularly enjoyed Garths friend, Rob.  I also enjoyed the couple Chester and Mabel who had taken Rob in. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own. This book releases on June 8, 2021 by Multnomah.  It can be found here-- No Journey Too Far: A Novel (McAlister Family): Turansky, Carrie: 9780525652953: Amazon.com: Books
