A Season of Change by Beth Wiseman

4 stars I was so excited to check back in at the Peony Inn.  I was welcomed back to the inn by the elderly sisters Esther and Lizzie.  It was so good to see Rose who is still so chatty but there seems to be so much pain behind the chatter.  Esther and Lizzie want to get back to their matchmaking and they have their eyes on Rose.  They think that the newcomer to town, Ben, would be a good match for her since he is so shy, but will opposites attract?  I wasn't sure if I would want to become reacquainted with Grumpy Gus, the elderly neighbor that lives in one of their cottages, but in this book he grows on the reader! Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.  The opinions are my own!

The Walnut Creek Wish by Wanda Brunstetter

4 stars Jeff and Rhonda are a couple that are struggling a lot.  They have wanted to have a child for years and have not been able to.  They decide to sell their house and move to the beautiful property in Amish country. Orley and Lois are a sweet, older couple who are Amish and own an antique store.  They come alongside Jeff and Rhonda and mentor them.   I found Rhonda to be a character that I did not enjoy as much.  The other characters made me want to keep reading the story.  I found it sweet how much Orley and Lois cared for the people that came in to their store. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

The Wish Book Christmas by Lynn Austin

5 stars This was such a fun book!  It was so cool to see what Eve and Audrey (the main characters from If I Were You) were doing.  I have so many great memories looking through the wish book catalog and that was fun to do that with the boys, Bobby and Harry. I particularly enjoyed how the author used something that was fueled by greed and turned the boys in to Wise Men who realized the greatest gift at Christmas was to give things away.  The boys weren't the only ones to learn lessons through this experiment and that was pretty cool too! Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.  The opinions are my own.

The Heart of Splendid Lake by Amy Clipston

5 stars I really enjoyed my trip to Splendid Lake!  There were so many things that resounded to me within this story--the loss of Brianna's father and the subject of foster care.   I enjoy reading stories of characters who care so much about their family even when it is hard.  Brianna's family is struggling with grief and financial struggles and yet she keeps fighting for her family.  Scott is the other main character and his life has been pretty difficult, growing up in the foster care system but he has found the strength to persevere. I really hope that the author takes the reader on another trip to Splendid Lake! Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.  The opinions are my own.

The Scarlet Pen by Jennifer Uhlarik

This is the final book in the True Colors Series.  These books are fictionalized books that tell the stories of true crimes.  They attempt to provide hope in the midst of somewhat dark stories. This particular true crime story centers around a man named Stephen who leaves a wake of loss wherever he goes.  The man that is searching for him is Clay and his girlfriend is Emma.  I particularly enjoyed the way that Emma's family cares for her and tries to protect her from this man.  I also enjoyed Clay and even while searching for Stephen he maintains respect for his person.   The author does a good job of not making the story too gruesome and weaves hope throughout. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review

The Return of the Big Valley

4 stars This is a collection of 3 novellas.  I enjoyed that they were each pretty full novels and that I could fully invest in the characters and the stories. The first novella was about Israel and Martha and this one was my favorite.  It was such a sweet story and I loved the way that Israel and Martha cared for the 5 boys in the midst of such a hard time.   The next story was about Martha and Glenn.  Martha was a little different because she enjoyed hunting and fishing.  I liked that Glenn was interested in her for who she was.   The last story was about Alma and was probably my least favorite.  She went to live with her friends after the loss of her husband.  I did not really enjoy her character because everything has to be her way. Thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book.  The opinions are my own.

The 5-Minute Visual Guide to the Bible by Michael Wittmer

5 stars This is a fantastic book that gives an overview of the Bible.  I enjoyed that while I was reading in the minor prophets, I could turn to the section about the minor prophets and understand more about what was happening in Amos.  I also really enjoyed how the author put a Scripture index in the back of the book to help the reader find out more information quickly.  The pictures are also stunning  throughout the book.   I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Freedom's Song by Kim Vogel Sawyer

5 stars This was a captivating story about Fanny Beck who was an indentured servant aboard a riverboat who is able to escape during a storm.  In her attempt to get home to her family, she comes upon a man and his daughter and stays with them to help him care for his daughter.  In the midst of this, Sloan, who owned the riverboat, is on the search for Fanny and longs to see her returned to his riverboat.   Fanny is such a strong character who is such a wonderful role model for women.  She took a terrible circumstance that she was in and continued to rely on God. Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.  The opinions are my own.

Hostile Intent by Lynette Eason

This is the 4th book in the Danger Never Sleeps Series.  I did not read the 3 previous books in the series but was captured by the story.  Ava has been through so much in her life and she is still such a strong woman.  I really enjoyed the characters of Ava and Caden.  The author keeps you enthralled in the story and eager to find out what happens. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.  The opinions are my own.
