The Heart of the Mountains by Pepper Basham

 Cora escapes to the mountains to avoid a forced marriage but is met by people and animals who do not want her there.  Jeb is home from the war and is struggling with the aftermath of that.  


I love how Cora is able to use her nursing skills and does not let the fear control her actions.  I probably would have been on the first transportation mode out of there.  


The people who live in the mountains can seem so rough and hard to understand but I love how strong and resilient they are.

  Kroosreadsandreviews thoughts: I loved being in the Pacific Northwest in the 1890's as the characters progress towards more updates.  It was interesting to see the thoughts behind the roads that were laid and how mail was distributed.   I loved Mary and her fierce determination and resilience to survive amidst a harsh climate.   She took a lot of risks in order to achieve her dreams.   There seemed to be a lot of loose ends but maybe those will weave together in the next book? Ambush by Colleen Coble

 Such a great setting for this romantic suspense book!  The Sanctuary is home to exotic animals but Paradise is hoping that it will be home to her as she confronts her past.  Blake is doing the noble thing by coming home to help his mom and brothers but comes alongside Paradise to help discover all of the attacks on the Sanctuary.   My favorite characters were Jenna, Levi and Isaac.  Those little boys were so sweet!    Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.  The opinions are my own.
